How to Convert Large Color bitmat (BMP) Files to JPG Files and Save Lots of Space

Gimp

  1. open the file in gimp, "gimp Wiiad.bmp"
  2. index the file with 64 colors, "image > mode > indexed"
  3. set maximum number of colors to 64
  4. file, save as, jpg, resolution level 20%, ok
In this example the resulting file, was about 1.3% of the original file size.
